Ireland and Mancora walking together
The “Ireland and Mancora Walking Together Project” was set up by Eamon Molloy, Tom Campbell, Robbie Baird and Nathan McFadden with Fatima Chero Palacios and her family in Northwest Peru during Christmas 2005.
While there, they found out that an Irish Priest named Father Martin O’Grady had been to Mancora some years previously. He had built a Church in the area and along with his companions had provided Spiritual and Medical Care for the people there, aiding the establishment of the town.
The aim of the project was to provide food for families most in need, and small Christmas gifts for Children from the Barrios of Mancora and nearby riverbed settlements named Fernandez and La Bocana. It also provided medication and medical treatments for disabled and diseased persons many of whom would most certainly have died without help.
Many of these families are without food and all are without a stable water supply and the basic necessities of life that we take for granted. Most of the children had never received any kind of gift before at Christmas time.
The project has been successfully growing in popularity since 2005.
This project was funded by Castlebar Credit Union and by private donations for Christmas 2005, 2006 and 2007.
This year in 2008 we hope that donations can be directed into helping these people in the longer term.
We are working on an online donation application but in the mean time if you would like to make a donation please Contact us to find out how.
The rest is up to you - With your help we can make a difference...
